Has everyone around you made their New Year’s resolutions by now? Feeling hopeless and insecure about yours? Well, the good news is you’re not alone. Forbes Magazine reports only 8% of people follow through with their new year’s resolution each year. That’s 92% of people who are just like you. It’s nothing to gloat about, but at least it’s been confirmed that it’s way hard.

Research suggests low levels of anxiety aids and motivates us to get ourselves into gear. However, if your anxiety is working in the opposite way it will likely hold you back from being able to move forward. So how do you set yourself up to feel just enough anxiety to help you get to the finish line, but not too much to keep you paralyzed? With these 3 steps, DUH! Check it out and let me know how you do.

  1. Keep it simple.
Set one, MAX two, goals at a time. Have you ever felt overwhelmed by a looooooooong list of things to do? I’m overwhelmed just thinking about it. It’s important to keep your goals specific, attainable, and realistic. So, set one or two goals at a time. Once you reach one goal set another! It’s like building a house. You can’t put the roof on without laying a strong foundation first - One step at a time my friend.

  1. Publicize your commitment.
Tell EVERYONE! Post it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, send a group text, send an email blast. Let everyone around you know about what habit you are looking to change. Whether it’s working out more, meditating every day, changing jobs, finding a relationship, repairing a friendship, making more money. Whatever it may be let the people around you know. This will keep you stay accountable for taking steps every day to lead you to that goal.

  1. Pace yourself.
Rome wasn’t built in a day, or so they say. Don’t forget to lay out a timeline and measure your progress.  Few things happen overnight and I have a feeling your 2017 goals aren’t going to be the exception, so why rush it? Enjoy the process, you may learn a few things as you go.
